I am becoming increasingly concerned about the longevity of Tuscaloosa only movie multiplex. Some screens have gummy bears on them, chairs and toilets with garbage bag coverings, and the grounds are no longer being kept up. To make matters worse I pay for the passport program but I have been unable to use it for the last two weeks because they claim to be changing systems. People with gift cards also cannot use them.

I want to be fair. The staff is great, management is lackluster.

I worked in cinema management for a large chain. I can tell you when a chain stops paying attention to the upkeep and repairs of a cinema they are planning on slowly leaving the market. A lack of repairs and upkeep shows the attitude towards their market. Drive to Birmingham, you will have a better experience.

Note: Rewards and passport system undergoing “planned” upgrades July 4th week. This is traditionally a blockbuster release week. Planning for upgrades this week and disabling all discount programs that customers pay for shows a blatant cash grab and unrestrained greed on the part of CMX. Many other weeks that could have been chosen that would have been much less impactful. [[UPDATE]]. Men’s restroom toilet seems to be repaired. Cleanliness is still an issue as is the rewards system. Over 30 days down.
[UPDATE October 2024]. CMX remains in decline. At least 4 months in reward system is still down. Customers with coupons and gift cards still cannot redeem them. Air conditioning is not functioning. Huge rental units are sitting in lobby. Half of the concession screens not working, men’s restroom sign is a printed piece of paper,
Chairs in theaters remain broken. CMX, what’s going on? Looming bankruptcy or is Tuscaloosa not an important market to you?
[update] reward system is reportedly back online. Will update review when confirmed

The theater is... Fine. It'll do. I like that they show smaller films on occasion (I just watched The Lighthouse in IMAX last night). Other than that, the interior has a strong 90s vibe which is fine, and its not ever that busy, even though it's the only cinema in town.

We were in town for a baseball camp and dropped in for the 6:15 showing of the new minions movie. The overall cleanliness of the theatre was not good. We got there about 5:45 and purchased our tickets. We then stood in line for 15 minutes to get our snacks. The employees had zero sense of urgency. I was asked if I wanted a receipt. When I responded “yes” the employee stopped filling our order and proceeded to go looking for receipt paper. I then told them don’t worry about it. At this point I was beyond frustrated with their overall lack of care and the fact that it was 92 degrees in the lobby. I don’t know what the actual temperature was but it was more uncomfortable inside than outside. We then get to the theatre where it was hot as well. No one likes going to a movie theatre and sweat through a movie! I was informed by an employee that the managers knew that the AC was not working in that theatre, but chose to sell tickets anyway.

The absolute worst cinema experience we've had ever. The place is NASTY. I've felt cleaner when I've walked out of Dirt Cheap. The AC was evidently out in the lobby with temporary AC units struggling to keep the place cool. Therefore, I had a glistening sweat working as I had to wait 8-12 deep in a line for $20 worth of stale tasteless popcorn and a coke. The restrooms were in horrible disarray with mult stalls/urinals out of order or purely nasty. . Multiple seats in the theater were covered with plastic bags... I'd hate to know the shape of them as the ones we actually sat in were filthy. Tuscaloosa deserves much better for it's only movie theater. My family will not be back until ownership changes. I'd rather drive to Birmingham or just stay home.
