Super cool place. Never knew this was here until today. I have been traveling for years through this area. Decided to take a detour from our road trip to check out the body of water and then found the dam. Really enjoyed the old rugged road and the scenery and the trailers and even the graffiti. The graffiti could easily be repainted and surely this place could be a little gem. We didn't stop at the little drive-thru place.. although it said it was open. We had to get back on the road. Definitely will have to stop back by here on our way through again.

If you are fascinated by engineering and architecture this is a nice stop. The drive there is a bit bumpy but a sedan can make it easily.

The dam and view points could use some restoration and clean up. It would also be nice to have some historical plaques telling the purpose and impact of its construction.

There are some nice views, I would love to come back closer to sunrise and at night.

Our visit occurred during a time when water levels in the lake were 294% of normal, and the surrounding area was green and lush. The dam itself is remarkable in its unique construction and vintage design, but sadly, it appears in disrepair, and the aesthetics are obviously neglected. The surrounding area is littered with trash and an abundance of broken glass. After our visit, I researched the dam a bit and found an amazing clip of the actual dedication of the dam with President Calvin Coolidge, which was attended by 3000 people.
In spite of the shortcomings, it's still worth a visit. To imagine what it took at the time to build it nearly a century ago and the importance it's played in the history of the area becomes real when you walk over the dam

Worth a trip to check out this historic Dam. It is deteriorating and is not a working dam though it is mostly intact. Some Google Image searches do show history of the dam. I would have liked to see it in it's heyday. It is one of the more unique dams I have visited.

The dam was interesting and has good history. However it has been very poorly maintained and the nearby viewpoints and picnic tables are disgusting and covered in graffiti. It's a shame that this historic Monument is in such bad shape.

Can't say it was worth going to. The water surrounding the dam has a displeasing smell. Very long poor maintained road with dangerously large potholes and boulders aplenty. DO NOT take any vehicle with low clearance or low profile tires.

Very beautiful place, the road into the dam is paved but it’s in poor condition, that being said any car can easily make the drive.
