All locked up. Signs posted saying who to contact an access (some govt agency). Phone number listed was disconnected and no alt number.
Found out later it's open only once or twice a year for "guided tours".
I just wanted to walk around and take some photos.
What a boondoggle.

The site it really concealed other than the sign that tells you that the dunes exist. GPS will get you mixed up on location of where the start is and definetly is tour based exclusively. Its a free two hour tour that you show up to the starting trail location and will be taken through a portion of the dunes with a guide and be given unique history insight about the location. This location exists to preserve the last bit of unique wildlife and plants that are left in the area and should be something to check out if you love botany or history. May is a good time of year to see everything in bloom and active wildlife.

This is a very cool place . It was once open with out a fence around it and free to enter dirtbikes dunebuggys bicycle you name would come here to ride and drive for a day of jumping and climbing and crashing of the sand dune . They prohibit that type of activity now and provide guided tours of the forgotten dune buggy playground. It's still a cool place to visit.

We went for the docent led tour. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. Not a large area, understandably. I recommend checking this out if you are interested in the ecology of the place.

Beautiful! Very clean, lots of trails and wildlife. There are viewing stands and information boards. Tons of waterfront trails, fishing access, and benches to sit on.
