My 4 month old cockatiel got stuck in the chain on his platform swing. Got bruised and scraped. They brought him in within hours, same day! They were friendly and very good with our Finn. He is back to normal now!!!

Dr. Jeanne Smith of Avian Health Services has been an answered prayer and has helped us care for our flock in every way conceivable. She truly cares and her rates are very reasonable. Dr. Smith has been gentle and loving with my little lovebird everytime we have gone to see her. For annual checkups and an egg binding, she has been patient, caring, and very knowledgeable. I am extremely mindful of who I take my animal companions to for care and I trust Dr. Smith's loving nature and obvious experience. She truly cares for the birds as well as their human caretakers.

I took my birds to Dr. Smith for over 10 years. I used to think that Dr. Smith was great and I used to recommend her. Now I feel that I need to write this review to warn others. Over 8 years ago, I took in a female African Grey that Dr. Smith diagnosed with proventricular dilatation disease (PDD). I should have gotten a second opinion. When she passed away a few months ago, I took her to get a necropsy at a well-respected avian clinic in the Bay Area. She did not have PDD. She died of atherosclerosis and heart disease. I likely could have saved her life if she had been diagnosed correctly. I learned a great deal from that vet visit: half of female African Greys around 30 years of age have heart disease, and PDD is not a very common disease. Why wasn't Dr. Smith looking for heart disease? There is no reasonable excuse. I also learned that even if my bird did have PDD, the medicines that Dr. Smith prescribed are not current and the test she uses for avian bornavirus is not an accurate test.

Also please keep in mind that she has no other veterinarians in her practice to discuss cases with and she has no UC Davis interns challenging her or introducing new ideas. She is out-of-date. She still uses barbaric practices like cutting nails too short to obtain blood for tests. Dr. Alan Fudge (an avian vet who moved out of the area) wasn't even doing that 15 years ago. Dr. Smith does not have the avian veterinary certification.

My bird passed away a few months ago. I waited to write this review so that I could think about it logically. I hope that my review will be helpful and that it will save a bird's life. I hope that this can be my bird's legacy, helping other bird owners to make better choices than I did. Fly free my sweet girl, momma misses you and will never forget you!

I had a very sick chicken that was trying to die. I took her in and EVERYONE there was so kind and helpful. Dr Maskey is knowledgeable and caring. My hen has been on antibiotics and has made a full recovery! She went back out to the coop today and is bright eyed and well!

Yesterday, April 16, Dr. Amy Maskey and her staff provided top-notch medical assessment of my older Amazon parrot and then comforted me as I made a very difficult decision. Their compassion was exemplary and so understanding. I would recommend Dr. Maskey at Avian Health Services for any bird-related illnesses or situations relating to our feathered friends.
