I really wanted to like this place, but the leasing office is too frustrating to deal with. They are completely inflexible with their algorithm, even if many, many units are open. Seems like bad business to me to not realize that you're pushing away your customers because your algorithm is more important, even though, in a few weeks, the algorithm will reflect the lack of interest and naturally lower the rates. It's clear that the owner is incredibly greedy and has no care for the people who live here. This is one of the most common reasons that I hear from people who leave and it's from the poor service from the leasing office.

Besides that, the apartment was dirty upon move in, and I had to make multiple maintenance calls for broken things (you'll see many, many other reviews reflect this). Maintenance was quick, so I'll give them that, although they weren't going to mop the floor (it took 5 washes to get the dirt out from the previous tenants; how is this acceptable?).

It's clear the building was cheaply and quickly built. The apartments have terrible sound isolation between floors. You can hear the sound of a cat walking on the floor above you, and normal walking sounds like stomping (no fault of the tenants above). It's impossible to not annoy your downstairs neighbor or be annoyed by your upstairs neighbor.

One big issue with maintenance is that the entire complex has an issue with Argentine ants, and they expect you to schedule pest appointments yourself. It seems unreasonable to not do entire building treatment when literally everyone is suffering from these pests.

The other big issue is that the emergency line doesn't work (you'll see other reviews about this too). They changed the system and left a phone number that was disconnected and never emailed out about it when water was pouring through the ceiling. I had to contact the security team. Days later there was an email about a new number; who knows if that really works when you actually have an emergency.

Edit: Look no further than the owner's response if you want to see how little they care.

Yes, I know your office emailed out with the "new" emergency number when the old one was temporarily affected, and it didn't work. It was changed again few days later.

Also, the owner didn't actually address my point about pest control and just reiterated their inane policy. There needs to be building-wide pest control. Having each resident have to call pest control when everyone is suffering is just negligent.

The owner is only concerned with making as much money as possible, and it shows with every action they take.

This is an appreciation for the maintenance team, Jose and Julio, at Madera. Apartment living often comes down to the quality of maintenance, as issues inevitably arise over time. Jose and Julio consistently stand out with their politeness, professionalism, and punctuality.

They promptly resolved our refrigerator and cooking range issues, and what I appreciated most was their willingness to help and their dedication to fixing problems as quickly as possible—a quality that’s not always easy to find. Thank you for your excellent work!

I am almost completing my 3rd year lease. I really love this apartment(pet friendly). The best part of this apartment is leasing office staff and maintenance team- super friendly, nice and proactive. Julio from the maintenance team is a "gem" of Madera apartment. Castro st is just 3mins by walk. Also very accessible to highway 101, 85, 237 and 280. There is a Cal train station near by so you will hear some train noise but building is very sound proof and well insulated. I got used of that noise within a week(I am a light sleeper). The neibourhood is very safe, and lots of walk way to go for a walk. I am glad that I selected this apartment for me and my dog . 🙂

Awesome location - just next to Castro and Mountain View downtown. The apartment is quiet and has almost everything.
The service was great - especially thanks for Jolio who is super attentive and responsive. We noticed that the washer door seal has some mold. The apartment service team said they could get it replaced the next day. However Jolio came over in a hour and replaced the seal very fast and got things solved. Really appreciate his help.

TL;DR: So, you’ve got your eye on a unit at Madera but can’t decide if it’s worth it? Welcome to the no-fluff zone. Here’s the deal: If Jose—aka the MVP of maintenance—still works here, stop waffling and just move in.

Why Madera?

Location is king: You can stroll to Downtown Mountain View for bars, restaurants, CalTrain, several gyms near by, or hop on the freeway with ease. Honestly, it’s a renter’s paradise.

Modern-ish vibes: Interiors are decent, though not flawless. My washer/dryer had the charm of a grumpy senior citizen, and my tub’s draining skills were questionable—but that’s where Jose comes in.

The Real Tea: Customer Service

Apartments aren’t perfect. I’ve lived at Landsby, where 'luxury' meant high rent, surprise fees, and, most memorably, dog-water management competency at best.

At Madera, the game-changer is service. Jose? A legend. He (and his supervisor) went as far as to replaced my washer/dryer, cleared my stubborn tub's pipe draining issue, and even followed up casually in the mailroom like a maintenance superhero. Punctual, polite, professional—he’s the kind of guy who makes you rethink your own work ethic.

Shoutout to Julio too, his equally stellar supervisor. Together, they’re a two-man dream team handling everything with skill and grace. For Bay Area rent prices, you should demand this level of service. And Madera actually delivers, consistently.

Bottom line: If you want to live in a great location with pros who actually care, Madera is worth it. Just hope you get a visit from Jose.

The location is excellent, the rooms are beautiful, and the facilities are magnificent. But in my opinion, what sets Madera apart is the team. The entire team at Madera goes above and beyond to make people feel welcome and heard. I'm so grateful for the ways in which they've gone out of their way to improve the accessibility of my experience. Thank you for making Madera truly feel like home!
