The Totem pole before it was hit by lightning in late 2022? McKinleyville shopping center. I hope they refurbish it. It's and was beautiful.

Fast forward to today. It's all fixed up, as strong as ever. Here are some new 2024 pictures.

Now that's the biggest pole I've ever seen! Seriously though, I had to wait here for a bit and I was like "wow! That's awesome!" I've been in Humboldt two years and I am loving all the American Indian culture that is preserved and proudly displayed. If you are passing through to go to the store or whatever, take a moment and walk over to this Totem and take it it's magnificence.

The coolest, yet most random thing ever. World's highest totem pole, that's carved from a single tree. Certainly wasn't expecting to find it in the middle of a shopping plaza in a modern California town, but it was certainly worth the short detour. Although it wasn't carved by Native Americans, you must command the artist for carving and displaying such a piece of art.

Very impressive, but when we went the pole was whitewashed with no color. Also wish they had more info about it available there.

Seriously, this site literally cracked us up on our way to Redwood NP. We were going to Safeway for some cold items for camping and turned the corner to find this little gem. If you are a treasure hunter and have a little extra time on your hands, stop through the town of McKinleyville and check this out. Right next door to Safeway.
