Good number of courts where the wait is not long and organized. The courts were slippery, however, as they needed to be hosed down to remove accumulated dust and dirt.

Six busy courts. Lights on til ten pm. As long as the weather is good, people will be there with 30 minutes of the sun coming up, and there will be groups playing until 10pm.

Each court has a paddle queue, so pick one which looks good to you and join in!

Update Nov 2024: courts are still busy. Parking is a bit harder because the main lot is half under construction. As long as the weather is remotely dry you can find people here from dawn to ten pm. Following is the original review

If you're a beginner you can play in, and people will play or warm up with you and teach you. If you find you're consistently much weaker, it's polite to try to find a more balanced group. But, 90% of the people only started playing in the last few years and we remember what that's like, so don't be shy about joining the line. You have the right to play, too.

Details:
1) Surprise reservations: About one day a month there can be reservations here for events/tournaments/etc but it's very rare. At those times it's usually not full day - normally, just 9-5pm, or just 5pm-10. There are sometimes reservations for the 3 lake-side courts nights from 6-10 for leagues (which you can join if you have a team, and you'll get 10 sessions or so per season.)

2) general Foster City reservation system: during the daytime, the 3 lake-side courts are reservable by Foster City residents, so the courts on the other side are where free play happens. After 6pm or so all 6 courts are open to all, and that side is usually higher level.

These pickleball courts were so much fun! We had such a great time playing and experiencing this side of the park. There were so many dogs walking along the river trail near the pickleball courts and it was fun to walk around after playing pickleball. The water is really beautiful and you can see it from the courts. This place is really popular because it's right next to the senior center so it was pretty busy on the weekend. There were lots of people who were playing pickleball but we were able to jump in and have a few games. The weather was perfect as always. Very fun place to play pickleball!

Waiting time is reasonable, but the lighting is a bit disturbing that one side of the court is always facing the lights directly.

6 phenomenal pickle ball courts. Need to place a reservation online unless you get lucky. Two tennis courts adjacent to the pickleball courts without the pickleball courts lines. We called the place and they confirmed it’s okay to use the tennis courts for pickleball. Totally worth checking it out right by the water.

One party had all six courts reserved and wouldn’t share even when they weren’t using one of those. Rather unfriendly and they don’t have a system to share courts like we have had elsewhere which also builds community by mixing players.

Courts are usually full and people can get territorial because of that. Foster City residents can also make reservations that, if you don't have a court reserved, sometimes you'll go and there are none available due to the reservations.

I pay taxes in San Mateo county for the parks. The reservation system is a joke. The same foursome stays on for two hours. These courts are not private. Maybe we should not let Foster City Residents use the Redwood City or Palo Alto Pickleball courts.
