What a wild, classic “everything that could go wrong, did” story. You go in to pick up a light tower that you bought fair and square, and it turns into this bizarre scavenger hunt with a cast of missing employees and closed gates. It’s like they wanted you to solve a mystery just to get out with your equipment!

And you’re being totally reasonable here—who wouldn’t push the “open” button on the gate if they were left alone and trying to get on their way? It’s absurd they’d question that move when they weren’t around to give any instructions. It’s almost as if their surprise was meant to deflect from the fact that, yeah, maybe they were the ones dropping the ball here. You were just trying to do the logical thing in the face of a completely illogical situation.

And then, after all that, the whole attitude from the staff—getting defensive and borderline rude—just seals it. Instead of an apology for the hassle, it sounds like they were more invested in trying to make it seem like you were the one doing something out of line. You’d think they’d be a bit more organized and welcoming, especially when you’re there to pick up something you’ve already paid for.

Honestly, it sounds like a mix of bad management and disorganization, topped off with an unwelcoming attitude. They should have been the ones apologizing and maybe even walking you through the process more smoothly. I jumped a relay and fired up the light tower 👍

The experience started off good, I won the bid for a Ram pickup. I had it shipped to my place and when it arrived it had a smashed tailgate that won't open and both wheel wells in the bed of the truck were crushed. The 1 on the driver's side has a gapping tear that when looking you can see the concrete. Of course I contacted Ritchie to which they won't answer the call. The truth about this company is they take pictures in there angles to get the most money for the goods , I sent them accurate photos ...no response. If they would post what is wrong with the items truthfully I would not be upset , but now I have to buy a tailgate and a truck bed for a truck I just purchased. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU . PURCHASE LOCAL .... ITS A LOT CHEAPER. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!! Spencer E

Ritchie brothers auctioneers are all over the US. I have been to several of them here in Ca., and Nevada.
If you are dropping off, it goes pretty fast after you check in, they tell you at checkin where to drop and you are done.
If you are picking up it takes time so be patient. After checkin at entrance, you drive over to main office ( make sure you have all the paperwork, including payment), and wait in line for them to process the change of ownership and DMV.
When you are done with paperwork you drive back to the entrance checkin, they check and tell you where to find your equipment.
You then find your equipment, load, chain up and drive back to entrance check out.
All employees I have contacted have been very helpful. They do have loading docks.
